The artwork for this gorgeous solid silver bar is inspired by a statue that stands atop Tepeyac Hill in Mexico outside the Basilica of Guadalupe.

In the Christian Bible, Michael the Archangel is the commander of the angelic armies of God. The sculpture depicts Michael defeating the serpent (a symbol for Satan), and is a picture of good defeating evil.

The statue also commemorates an event that is said to have taken place hundreds of years ago, but is relevant especially now: in the year 1631, Michael the Archangel was dispatched by God to Tepeyac Hill to provide healing to a tribe of people being ravaged by a plague called cocolixtli, a form of smallpox.

Archangel Michael is most often thought of as the angel of protection and the most powerful of all the angels. He is considered a leader within the angelic realm and a patron angel of righteousness, mercy and justice. As such, scriptural artwork depicts him as a warrior most often carrying a sword. Michael leads God's armies against Satan's forces in the Book of Revelation, where during the war in heaven he defeats Satan.
